Nothing Has Changed, Except Everything
Fiona Shaw
Fiona Shaw is an artist that works with installation, sculpture and drawing. She currently lives in Blackpool, UK. Shaw's practice encompasses fear, language, science, romance and break-up songs to humorous yet tense ends. The work utilises repetition and delicate balance in unsettling scenarios.
“ Nothing Has Changed, Except Everything continues my exploration of the isolation and delicate existential balancing act that accompany the pursuit of meaningful communication… and the fear that this is ultimately not possible. The need for connection – to people, to objects, to the world at large – is so strong that we can turn off our sneaking suspicion that it is all, in the end, meaningless. My work's ongoing use of language forms a catch-22 of paradoxical ambition and collapse that speaks to the ever-optimistic romantic in all of us: even though we know the whole thing might fall apart at any moment – inevitably, perhaps, with words as our tools – we keep trying, even using this failure as a badge of honour. ”
